Artist's Comments

This was an experiment using dry on wet - with pencil crayons. I'm quite happy with the results. Although, I'm envious of anyone who can make a convincing black. Without using the forbidden black pencil crayon, of course. (Cair's wings and hair are supposed to be black.)

This drawing was done for the gender bending round for Anime Art Excange over at livejournal.com. And although I'd like to keep her, he/she belongs to ancatsidhe. If you're interested, the character description is here: [link]

I am impressed. So very amazingly impressed. I mean, jaw dropped impressed. The expression and the lines are absolutely amazing and the colour technique gives a softness that you are really hard-pressed to achieve in any other way... and purple is a perfectly reasonable substitue for black-- any time I try for black without actually using black, I'm afraid that it always comes out muddy.

Thank you so much
:iconkhaosfire:
I'm glad you like it. The hours spent are worth it. :) (And now, I'm going to have this stupid grin on my face for hours.)

My equation for "black":

Blueberry purple Yellow
chestnut brown + OR
Blue Orange
:iconkhaosfire:
Grr...

Chestnut brown

+

Blueberry purple OR blue

+

Yellow OR orange

Thats some nice color work there, with some very nice outline contrasts. Its interesting that you were worried about the black being intense enough when your outlines seem to be a very saturated black. How did that come to be?
:iconkhaosfire:
Thank you. I did the lineart in black pen. It was the coloring that I was trying to not use black in.

Because experimenting is fun. :)
:iconretrosushi:
Overall, you did a pretty good job with the proportions. But I feel like the feet and hands are too big. But I understand, because I still draw my hands to big also. And I hardly draw bare footsies. :bucktooth:

And maybe you should play with some settings so the scan looks better? Because the dark haze around the edges hinders the quality of your art. But you did a great job anyway. =D
